What is International Girls Skate Day?

International Girls Skate Day is a movement for often disenfranchised skaters (girls/women/non-binary/non-dudes) to support one another by skating on the same day in solidarity, regardless of where they live/shred in the world!

In April 2019, we launched the first International Girls Skate Day and the Girls Skate Day digital map! This map allows skaters, skate shops, and supporters to register and place a pin on our Google map helping skaters from all around the world connect. Our goals are to invite girls, women, and non-binary people to shred, to help them connect with each other, and to encourage them to build their own communities. All ages/skill levels are encouraged to participate, treating people like poop is not!

In 2019, events took place in Boston and Worcester, MA (USA), Montpellier (France), Kathmandu (Nepal). Boston’s event included:

Free admissions by renting out a local park (Acorns)

Free lessons

Free skateboard rental

Free raffle (w/ boards and gear donated by OneGig)

A talk about the Neuroscience of Skateboarding given by one of our organizers in collaboration with the Cambridge Science Festival.

Science, like skateboarding, has a tendency to shut out women/girls-- which is why we teamed up with CSF for Boston GSD! Our main goal is to build inclusive spaces where women/girls/non-binary people are able to explore interests more freely.

This year the event will take place on:

Saturday, April 18th, 2020!!

How can I participate?

* Register here as a skater or host for International Girls Skate Day 2020

* Sign up to volunteer the day of the event ~ email: girlsskateday@gmail.com

* Donate! All our events are free so your donations will help make GSD as far reaching and inclusive as possible.

* Loan/donate boards/protective gear (pick up/drop off can be arranged)

* Host your own International GSD 2020 event! Skate in solidarity with women, girls, and non-binaries on April 18, 2020!

~Please feel free to email us with your thoughts!~

International Girls Skate Day is made possible by;

our friends at Papercut Zine Library, ERA, Sciencepunx, NeuroBoston & community support from shops like OneGig
