Intro to Linocut Printmaking

linocut-eventbrite - Marie Yatsyk.png

Linoleum Printmaking, or Linocut, is a printmaking technique in which a design is carved into the surface of a linoleum block with a sharp knife or V-shaped gouge. The remaining surface of the block is then inked and pressed into paper. Using these blocks and ink, you can create multiple prints to use as wall art, greeting cards, illustrations, patches, zine covers, clothing designs, and more!

In this introductory workshop, we'll cover:

  • A brief history of block printing

  • Options for tools and materials

  • Demo of the print-making process

  • Techniques for creating multi-color prints

You'll walk away with all the knowledge you need to design and carve your own block and start printing! For folks just looking to dip their feet into printmaking, we'll also discuss a way to start printing using just a big rubber eraser and an X-acto knife.
